ATTENDANCE and PUNCTUALITY
Regular attendance at school is important to the success of each child. It is vital that all absences are explained on the morning of the first day. Where no explanation is received the office staff will contact you to seek a reason for the absence. This helps us to know that the child is safe. At Penyrenglyn we are determined to improve attendance and reduce the number of unauthorised absences. Authorised absences include illness and medical appointments. All requests for absence must be addressed to the Headteacher in advance using the form available from the school office.
IMPORTANT! Requests for HOLIDAYS in term time will only be authorised under special circumstances for pupils with a history of good attendance (96% or above). Unauthorised holidays may be subject to a fixed penalty notice. Please check the term dates and the school’s attendance policy and our school website.
Each child’s attendance is monitored by the Attendance and Well-being Officer (AWO); parents may receive a letter from the Headteacher, a home visit from the AWO, or may be requested to meet with the Headteacher to discuss concerns. Punctuality is also monitored and parents will be contacted if a child is persistently late. Your child needs to arrive early enough to enter the classroom between 8:50 a.m. and 9a.m. Arriving late can be upsetting and disruptive for children.
