Mrs M Hutchings - Headteacher

Croeso/Welcome,

On behalf of the governors, staff and children, I take great pleasure in welcoming you and your family to our school website. It is the first step in forming that important link between home and school. The information it contains will enable us to work together in line with our school motto 'Inspiring Ambition' so that our children achieve their very best now and in the future.

Our school has approximately 190 pupils divided into three phases. The first of these phases is Progression Step 1 comprising of Nursery & Reception. The second phase is Progression Step 2 comprising of Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3. The third phase is Progression Step 3, which comprises of Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.

The school serves the villages of Ynyswen, Penyrenglyn and Treherbert. The present building was opened in 2003 to replace the former Penyrenglyn Junior and Infant schools, followed by the closure of Treherbert Infants School in 2006 and Ynyswen Infants School in 2014.

The school provides many excellent facilities including:

- large, bright airy classrooms

- a new community kitchen

- a large multi-purpose hall

- a library

- a range of Information Communication Technology (ICT) resources

- extensive grounds with canopied areas

- outdoor learning facilities with access to the new 3G pitches

- a designated Forest School site in the neighbouring woodlands.

- a nurture room where our Family Engagement Officer is based

Penyrenglyn Community Primary School is a happy and caring school that takes great pride in educating children in such a way that they become self motivated in their own education. Our curriculum offers our pupils rich and exciting learning opportunities and inspires them to do their very best. Every child is different and their individuality is valued, respected and celebrated in our school community. Staff are dedicated to providing the best education for all our pupils ensuring that each child receives a programme of teaching and learning experiences that addresses their individual needs.

As a school community, we take great pride in educating children in an environment that is challenging, exciting, and purposeful and in which everyone experiences success. We expect children to make good educational progress and be proud of their own, and their schools’ achievements.

Home involvement is actively encouraged, as support from home is essential and complimentary to what we hope to achieve. We hope that by working together, our children will find themselves to be happy, fulfilled people, whose sense of wonder will stimulate the need to learn for many years to come.

I am sure you will find our website useful in learning more about Penyrenglyn Community Primary and please feel free to contact the school directly with any further queries. Prospective parents are most welcome to contact us to arrange a visit.

I trust that you and your child will cherish many happy memories during your time at Penyrenglyn Community Primary School.
